Training in Quarantine - Day 194

#

Evening walk from yesterday that I forgot to log -- short walk, the weather was looking ominous and did actually end up heavily raining.

Also, I got a notification a couple of days ago that Endomondo is being retired at the end of the year.

I knew this was going to happen soon at some point after Underarmor picked it up.

I'm saddened by this as Endomondo has been my go-to for a lot of running things, including helping me train for the Half Marathon. Strava is my alternative and a lot of my colleagues are on that, but I really do not like the interface and only really use it for storing my walk/run tracks.

Training - 28th October 2018

#

One-lap run around my park. Nothing major.

Training - 27th October 2018

#

First run for a long while – decided to push and go for the 5k I had been leaving for a long while

Made it in 30mins near enough on the dot. Strava tracking 5.03km in 29.57 with an average pace of 5:57min/km

Training - 20th September 2018

#

Easy run today, made it to about 3k

Training - 20th September 2018

#

12 minute fitness test today. According to Endomondo, I made 2.16 km.

Training - 9th September 2018

#

Intervals run today – I decided to try walking the beginning and end since the target pace was just under 8mins but I struggled to find a good speed, since 8min/km is too fast for my walk pace and too slow for my jog pace

Training - 9th September 2018

#

4.3k run today

Training - 8th September 2018

#

Reset my Endomondo plan to reflect updated pace. Today’s run was a 3.8km run. Got to about 3km then dropped to a walk, but kept a pretty consistent pace until then.

Training - 4th September 2018

#

Straight walk 3.3k

Training - 3nd September 2018

#

Straight walk for 3k. Was actually 3.3k, but Endomondo tracked 3.3k before my Fitbit did.

Training - 2nd September 2018

#

Run/walk 4 intervals at 2min/1min times

Training - 1st September 2018

#

No scheduled run today, so just did a straight run and one lap of my local park.

Training - 30th August 2018

#

6 intervals today, back to running for each of the fast-walk intervals

Changed the run schedule a bit in @endomondo – Wednesday I’m normally late due to office stuff and Friday… well, Happy Hour ^_^

So next run is now Sunday with a 4x 2min run/1min walk interval.

Training - 27nd August 2018

#

8 intervals today with two short ones (and that threw me a bit)

Spotted a sign from the local council on a lamp post on the run near the end – apparently, they’d found 2 dead fox cubs with no injuries, implying they had been poisoned, which is in violation of a Wildife Act or something along those lines.

Then on the lamp post opposite “Dog Owners, don’t let your dogs poop on the pavement, clean up after them. You know who you are”

Someone hates animals it seems…

Training - 25th August 2018

#

Missed a run due to heavy rain.

Today’s run was a walk/run with 4 intervals

Training - 22nd August 2018

#

First day training back with @endomondo – more a walk today, but I ran a bit during the “fast-walk” intervals.

I used Endomondo for the voice prompts, but tracked the main workout with my fitbit. This led to my graph being a bit out of sync with the workout graph…

Next run is on Thursday. Well, it’s a walk rather than run…. But start slow, and build up, I guess

Training - 21st August 2018

#

I tried (for the second time) to do the next run in the C25K ZenLabs, which was a 22min run I got halfway, then dropped to a walk :(

I checked out Strava’s Premium Fitness Plan offering and dislike it immediately (for a 5K training, it wants you to run 1-1.5 hours as the first run. Seriously?!)

I went back to Endomondo (who have been acquired by Under Armor since I last used them) and their Fitness Plan offering hasn’t changed so reactivated my premium and will start with their C25K tomorrow.

Marathon Records

#
How many marathons have you run? Could you do more than one in a year? How about a month? A week? This old article from The Telegraph (and recently showed up on Oddity Central at [www.odditycentral.com/news/man-...](http://www.odditycentral.com/news/man-runs-370-marathons-in-one-year-proves-nothing-is-impossible.html)) shows a guy running *370 marathons in a year.*
The most I've seen a woman run was 366, and that was Annette Fredskov ([blog.endomondo.com/2013/08/0...](http://blog.endomondo.com/2013/08/09/how-annette-fredskov-ran-366-marathons-in-365-days/))

Updates

#

It’s been a while since I last posted so here’s a few quick updates:

1.Royal Parks Half Marathon

Ballot opens in just under a week, so I’m hoping to be able to get a place

  1. Running Updates

I’ve now got a Running Watch and a Nike+ Fuel Band – linked into my profile here. The band lets me check my activity for the entire day, and the watch lets me log my run far more accurately than my phone can. I still use Endomondo and Zombies, Run. Endomondo for the training plan, and Zombies, Run for the story entertainment.

Stopped using gmusicfs as it causes random reboots, and, I’ve noticed, messes up CameraZOOM, which is the photo app I use on my phone, so now, I have my music streaming via Google Play Music, and have ZR running. However, it does cause overlap, plus, I can’t always hear what they are saying. Fortunately, I’ve listened to the entire Season 2 now, anyway. Actually, might ditch ZR now as its not really helping me now.

Ran a 13K distance on Sunday just gone, and was suffering aches during Monday and Tuesday. The route was mostly okay, but like with Waggon Road, this one stopped doing pavements part way along the road, forcing me to run on the grass and on the main road itself. Even had to balance on the stones holding up the black and white “>>>” chevrons.

Next run is today (7.4K, but going to aim to round it up to 8K.) Aiming to run it at between 5:30 and 6:00 min/km pace, so should be 44-48 mins. Found a nice route following the A110. Sure it’s along the main road, but its lit at night, has a dual pavement most of the way (separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists), and mostly flat. Should be good to help with my distance endurance

Nike+

#

I started to use Nike+ because I liked their use of routes and their concept of “Nikefuel”, then I found out that there is an option in Endomondo to link into it. Though it seems like it’s one way, based on the description (Nike+ –> Endomondo). I’ll give it a go this evening for my first Half Marathon training session. I have been running these past few days with Nike+, Zombies Run, and Endomondo all active, tracking my session, and this drains out about 80-85% of my battery in 30 minutes. If the Endomondo - Nike+ link works, I’ll be pretty damn pleased, though I doubt that will be the case

Nike+ integration with Endomondo - How does it work?

Training Plan For Half Marathon

#

My 10K race is coming up soon, so I’ll need to start looking ahead to decide what I do after that. Well, I’ll start re-training up for a Half Marathon, since I’m able to do a sub-1hr 10K (although I’d be happy to hit below 50 minutes.) Endomondo estimates my completion time as 2hr 4min 13s based on my current 10K PB.

Endomondo Training Plans

#

You may recall a while ago, I posted about training plans suddenly showing up on Endomondo. Well, they’ve now hit the mobile app - at least on the Pro version. Unsurprising, really, since Training Plans are a premium feature (at the moment)

Training Plans on Endomondo

#

Endomondo have started rolling out training plans for runners. These training plans are dynamic in that they update and change based on your progress and fitness.

You must churn out a certain mileage per week in order to qualify for a training plan. For example, I do around 15K a week, and therefore, Endomondo offers me a 5-15km training plan, but doesn't offer me a Half Marathon or Marathon training plan.

Here's an example of a training plan Endomondo offered me for a 10K. I'm not using this plan for two reasons. First, I'm already in the middle of a training plan with MyAsics, and second, this plan finishes in JANUARY and the earliest I can end the plan is October 25th, which is way beyond the date of October 6th when my first 10K race is.
