Training in Quarantine - Day 46 -- VE Day

#

A free Friday because I'm now on 4 day week, and it's VE Day, so my one-hour walk came across several roads with bunting and lots of Union Jacks. It certainly was suitable weather for it...

Lots of people were queuing and saw the longest queue outside Tesco Supermarket (and not Sainsbury's surprisingly)

After the one-hour walk, I then did my Fitbit workout, which was just shy of 35 minutes and I certainly felt it afterwards....

Training in Quarantine - Day 45

#

Dropped an email to the insurance brokers to ask when I would expect to see the final cheque for my car and they advised end of this week, early next. And I then asked about the hire car and they advised I am entitled to the car for another 7 days after the receipt of the final cheque.

Problem is, I can't get another car right now due to the lockdown, but I did check on Car Wow and Auto Trader. Car Wow seems much easier to use. And I have already got an offer from a Toyota dealer in Woodford Green, about 1.5 hours bus journey away (three buses) and only about 10 miles.

Doing early shopping tomorrow, so only did my 1hr walk today, and no FitBit workout, but should be able to finish this week's set if I work out Friday/Saturday/Sunday

A nice hot day, no queues except outside Sainsbury's, and a few at Co-op on the way back.

Training in Quarantine - Day 44

#

Decided to do my Fitbit workout before my walk today. Meant I was already feeling hot when I started my walk and today was reasonably warm, so by the time I finished, I was sweating again....

Training in Quarantine - Day 43

#

Did the long walk again today, only a few queues today, outside Tesco Petrol station, Sainsbury's and Tesco Supermarket.

Forgot to bring my earbuds so it was a silent walk around the 5k lap, but surprisingly relaxing. No music meant I was left to my thoughts. Of course, it did also mean I was bugged by some beggars on my way around -- they always seem to congregate around Sainsbury's for some reason....

Training in Quarantine - Day 42

#

Long walk today. Queues were back. Pharmacy, Sainsbury's and Tesco's all had relatively long queues. Sainsbury's being the longest. Guess I spoke too soon when I said the panic buyers had bankrupted themselves....

Training in Quarantine - Day 41

#

Grey skies, but no rain, 45 minute walk, 4.76 km, and no queues at most of the shops. A few people waiting outside the butchers and the Co-op, but nowhere else.

Beginning to think most of the panic buyers have bankrupted themselves, or are desperately trying to shift their hoard, like the guy mentioned on Sky News Australia

Training in Quarantine - Day 40

#

1 hour walk today, no rain luckily, and very few queues in the shops. Butcher had a queue of 1 and the fruit n veg had no queue when I walked past but had a reasonably sized queue when I came back.

Training in Quarantine - Day 39

#

I'm on four-day weeks now, due to Coronavirus, so did the shopping this morning at Tesco. No queues at all, surprisingly, and the in-store baker recognised me, wondering why I'm there on a Friday instead of the Saturday like I normally am ^_^

Did my 1 hour walk, and the last bit was a sprint as it started hailing. Yep, another wet miserable day, and then, just to rub it in, it turned sunny after I got home....

Training in Quarantine - Day 38

#

Today was almost totally raining, but stopped just as I finished work, so I got in a 30 minute walk. I was contemplating going around for another 30 minute lap, but the looming black clouds were not promising.

A few minutes after I took shelter in doors, the skies opened up again....

Training in Quarantine - Day 37

#

Another pouring rain today, so no walking at the usual time, just my FitBit workout at 26 minutes.

However, soon after I finished my workout, the rain stopped so I went and did my 3km walk.

Training in Quarantine - Day 36

#

My car was picked up and the salvage agent drove off into the distance in the pouring rain....

He drove out with fuel leaking from my car as he drove the card hard up against the van's ramp and it made lots of scraping sounds as he was trying to force the broken bits of my car up the ramp too. The ramp was wet, so also lead to my car's wheels spinning.

He tried to avoid signing the V5C, saying the office would sort it but I insisted he sign (I can do the SORN online, but would rather have something in writing in case).

I did the SORN online (https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle if you're curious) and got the confirmation from the DVLA that I'm no longer the owner of the vehicle, but will get a letter in the post. I still have the Section 9 from the V5C but will not need to send it apparently.

The pouring rain continued throughout the whole day and after I finished work, so no after-work walk as I normally do and have been doing every day after work.

I did do my FitBit workout though. 29 minutes today.

Training in Quarantine - Day 35

#

V5C completed and my car was supposed to be picked up today, got called saying the driver had called in sick and has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

Bizarrely, my insurance company emailed saying that my car had already been collected, which it obviously hadn't. But that's probably just because it's automated.

Went for my walk and did the long loop. Co-op had no queue, my local fruit n veg did, but not as big as it normally does. Tesco Express petrol station had a small queue, Sainsbury's had a relatively big queue, but also not as big as it normally does. Tesco Express Supermarket, had a reasonably sized queue and Aldi surprisingly had no queues.

So far, out of all the car brands I've queried about new vehicles, only Toyota have replied and been engaging with my queries. I guess my next vehicle will be a Toyota.

Training in Quarantine - Day 34

#

Short walk and FitBit workout.

Queues outside fruit n veg store, Co-Op, and Sainsbury's, but no queue outside Tesco Express Petrol Station.

Today's FitBit workout was Arms, Shoulders and Chest

Training in Quarantine - Day 33

#

Another walk in nice weather. Did the longer walk today. Queues outside the local fruit n veg. No queue outside Co-Op (though there was on the way back). Small queue outside Tesco Express petrol station, big queues outside Sainsbury's no queue outside Tesco Express supermarket, and small queues outside the butchers and the fruit n veg stores nearby to there.

Did my shopping this morning. Missed my usual 5:30am queue up and ended at the Tesco at 6:15am and there were no queues. No idea why, there's normally queues until past 6:30am at least.

And the shelves were pretty well stocked up. So perhaps the panic buyers have finally bankrupted themselves.

This will be the final weekend with my car since it will be being picked up Monday for recycling. So I made sure everything was emptied out of the car today. Out of curiosity, I turned on the ignition (but not the engine) and the electrics all came on and the radio was fine and still had its memory of my stations, and there were no warning alarms. Whether the car is driveable or not, we'll find out when the salvage agent comes on Monday.

Training in Quarantine - Day 32

#

Day 32 in quarantine.

Insurance contacted me to say they've sent the engineer's report to the other person's insurance company to see if they will accept costs.

I've asked if I can see the report also.

Short walk, messed up a bit due to my FitBit not locking on at all until about 20% into the walk.

Today did my FitBit workout. Backs and Legs today, 31 mins.

Training in Quarantine - Day 31

#

Reached the end of the first month of quarantine. Lots of stuff done with my insurance claim, but that's in another blog entry.

Did my 5k walk, which ended early due to a WhatsApp message.

Someone had just wrecked their car on the SAME traffic island that caused my car to be wrecked, and only SIX days after my accident.

Anyone want to bet they were distracted by my wrecked car?

Training in Quarantine - Day 30

#

4.70km walk (though my FitBit lost GPS for a while so the tracking was all over the place). No FitBit workout after the walk.

Insurance came back this morning and confirmed my car is a writeoff. The assessors called in the afternoon and valued my car at just over £3000. Considering it's an 09 plate, that isn't too bad, I think. Will discuss with family before giving the go ahead. The car next to mine is also written off, with value of £2200. Meaning a total of £5200 will be claimed from the third-party insurance, and that's not including the damage from the other two cars, and the driver's own car.

Training in Quarantine - Day 29

#

Got my courtesy car from the insurance today and went shopping straight after work, so no running or walking today, but I still did my FitBit workout.

Training in Quarantine - Day 28

#

3k walk today, which took me about 30 mins, then I decided to take up FitBit's offer to a 3 month trial of Premium, which included access to FitBit Coach (which I used previously). Picked up where I left off and resumed my "Get Lean" program. Today's workout was also 30 mins long and definitely made me sweat. God, I'm so out of shape... :-(

In other news, I finally got called by my insurance company and have so far spent two hours on the phone with different companies -- the insurance company, the accident claims management company partnering the insurance company and the assessors who are responsible to checking whether the car is repairable.

My dad's car, which was also damaged has been declared a writeoff, even though it suffered less visible damage than my car. Mine hasn't been declared written off yet, although I've sent all the videos and photos I have to the assessors. We shall see whether or not I need to get a new car....

Training in Quarantine - Day 27

#

5k walk today, lovely weather, but surprisingly few people queuing. Got in to Co-op without anyone in front of me in the queue, Tesco Express petrol station had no queues, neither did Sainsbury's. Tesco Express supermarket had 1 person in the queue who just entered as I walked past. Only a few people queuing at my local fruit n veg shop, and the one by Tesco Express supermarket wasn't open today.

Training in Quarantine - Day 26

#

Short walk, but can't focus with the wrecked car on my mind....

Training in Quarantine - Day 25

#

A rainy afternoon, so I went for a 30 min walk. In the rain, since I need the exercise, even if I'm going to get wet in the process....

Training in Quarantine - Day 24

#

Interrupted afternoon walk due to rain :(

Did manage to go out again after work, and do a short round.

Training in Quarantine - Day 23

#

Long walk round, and something happened to my fitbit on the route and it stopped tracking, leaving a half complete loop, even though I did finish it. Maybe it was because I decided to run a bit and perhaps the tracker stopped because it could see I wasn't walking any longer....

Training in Quarantine - Day 22

#

Shorter walk today -- went to check the nearby Aldi. Big queues there. Looks like most people are trying to queue there since it's cheaper.

Sainsbury's was no better -- big queues there too. Didn't check the Tesco Express petrol station, though.
